ENGINEERING AT NIGHT SCHOOL
Software development is just as creative as other roles at Night School. Our engineering team highly values cross-disciplinary thinking. Creating great gameplay experiences requires our engineers to imagine elegant, extensible, and optimized systems and appreciate, communicate, and integrate with art, design, production, and narrative. Here, you’ll flex your ingenuity and skill in multiple areas as needs arise, whether directly in our games, as part of a development support system, or as part of our in-house storytelling toolset, NightTools.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We seek a talented, driven, and passionate mobile engineer to help us build the best mobile experiences possible for our existing and upcoming games. As a Senior Mobile Engineer, you will be crucial in developing and optimizing our games for iOS and Android platforms. This position also requires gameplay experience, and you will work closely with cross-functional teams to create engaging, high-quality experiences that captivate players.
Responsibilities:
- Be a voice for mobile game development best practices.
- Make improvements to mobile toolchains and developer workflows.
- Optimize and debug code and content across the games as needed.
- Produce well-engineered, reliable, and maintainable code.
- Participate in code reviews with the engineering team.
- Partner with design and implement core gameplay mechanics, systems, and features.
- Optimize gameplay systems to ensure a fluid and engaging player experience.
- Mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise in mobile development.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in mobile game development.

Skills & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years of professional experience in mobile game development.
- Experience developing mobile games with Unity.
- Skilled with iOS and Android development using Swift, Objective-C, Java, or Kotlin.
- Demonstrated gameplay development experience.
- Published games on the App Store and Google Play Store.
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is$190,000-250,000.
