Main role and responsibilities
- Lead all Android architecture initiatives for new and existing mobile Android Native applications and SDKs at Zscaler. This includes working with the PMs, UI Designers, Engineering Managers and Android developers to design and document how the Android applications will be developed and improved moving forward. The Architect will produce HLD (High Level Design) and LLD (Low Level Design) documents as required for the projects.
- When required, develop POCs (Proofs of Concepts) and prototypes to prove the proposed architecture end-to-end before starting the full development phase.
- Collaborate with all Android developers to make sure the Android products are built of high quality and performance. Assist the Engineering teams when new or unexpected technical problems arise that block or slow down the Engineering teams in the software development process.
- Keep up over time with the Android system APIs evolution, new features and technologies (open-source and commercial) and continuously propose changes in tools, libraries, etc. with the goal of making our Android apps the best in the industry and increase the productivity of the team
- Lead by example. The architect in this role will be happy to contribute to the source code base, do thorough PR code reviews to ensure high coding standards, best practices and security guidelines. He/she will debug and test as needed, including investigating and solving hard customer issues that may arise
- Keep up to date with the latest features and improvements in the Android ecosystem, and explore if and how these can be leveraged by Zscaler products as applicable
- Innovation will be key to this role. The architect will always be trying to push the boundaries of the technology and how we can use it.
- Mentor other Android developers and create a community of passionate developers that keep innovating and collaborating in this space
- Keep up to date and explore mobile multi-platform development frameworks like Flutter, KMP, etc.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in Android App development (10+ years), delivering successful Consumer or Enterprise Android applications at scale with an app rating of 4.3 stars min. Expected in-depth knowledge about Android app development in the following areas:
- Android Activity Lifecycle, memory management, etc.
- Android related networking protocols and libraries
- Android security issues and potential solutions
- Multithreading, on-device storage, performance tuning etc.
- Open-source and commercial libraries commonly used in Android
- Hands-on expertise in mobile client architecture, including one of MVVM, MVP etc.
- Experience developing and releasing commercial Android SDKs for third-party integration
- Strong experience and understanding of networking protocols
Desired Skills
- Experience implementing vpn, firewall type solutions on Android
- Experience with PKI, network security technologies and protocols
- Experience on platform-level component specific to Android and AOSP programming
- Experience or familiarity with iOS platform
Education: BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
