Purpose of the role
You will be responsible for designing, building, maintaining and evolving our Proton Drive applications on Android. This includes not only building the application internals (managing local and remote state, performing cryptographic operations, etc) but also helping us to build a resilient, scalable application (graceful degradation; log and metrics streams free of personally identifiable information). You will be involved in the entire application lifecycle, including Gitlab configuration, deployments, monitoring and alerting, and operational incident response. While this position is not a "full-stack" position, you will be expected to collaborate with Proton Drive backend engineers to drive any necessary changes and/or new features needed for the Android experience.

- Lead decisions to build primary Android application
- Architect and develop solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact
- Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards
- Facilitate alignment and clarity across the team on goals, outcomes, and timelines
- Analyze and optimize infrastructure application code for quality, efficiency, and performance
Job requirements
- You can write apps in Kotlin
- You know Android Studio well
- You insist on writing relevant tests at the same time as the implementation
- You have experience using MVVM or other scalable architecture
- You have knowledge of mobile engineering best practice and agile development methodologies
- You know your way around Git
- You love to share knowledge with others
- You always raise problems promptly and value clear communication
- You can find the right balance between perfect code and meeting business objectives on time, while holding the quality bar high and looking for creative solutions.
Bonus points for:
- Having built shared modules/components before
- Experience with gradual rollouts and metrics/monitoring/alerting frameworks
